Privacy policy

This policy describes the BookGuard website and the BookGuard ChatGPT plugin, including its optional book-catalog lookup service, published by Derek Dardis.

Website data

This is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages. It does not contain a BookGuard sign-in form, newsletter, advertising tracker, or analytics script. We do not ask visitors to submit personal information on this site. GitHub, as the hosting provider, may process technical information such as IP addresses and request logs under its own policies.

Using the ChatGPT plugin

BookGuard works through ChatGPT. Its optional book-catalog tool uses a stateless BookGuard service hosted on Cloudflare Workers to look up public bibliographic records through Open Library. When a catalog lookup is used, the service receives a book title and optional author or an ISBN and forwards the corresponding bibliographic request to Open Library. The service does not need or request reader names, ages, book-screening conversations, or other private details for these lookups.

The BookGuard catalog service is not designed to store the contents of lookup requests in an application database, and its code does not intentionally log submitted book-search fields. Cloudflare and Open Library may process connection information, requests, and operational logs under their respective policies. ChatGPT and other research sources may separately process information under their own terms, privacy practices, and your account settings. Please avoid putting personal details about children or sensitive information in book-title or author fields.

BookGuard does not provide user accounts or a separate data-deletion dashboard for the catalog service. For data handled by ChatGPT, Cloudflare, Open Library, or GitHub, consult those services’ privacy policies and controls.

Support requests

Support is provided through public GitHub Issues. Information you choose to post in an issue may be publicly visible and processed by GitHub. Please do not post personal information about children or other sensitive details. You can manage your own issues through GitHub, subject to GitHub’s policies.

Data sales and payments

BookGuard does not operate a data-sales program or payment checkout through this website or plugin. Use of ChatGPT may be subject to the platform’s own terms and plan limits.

Changes and contact

This policy may change as the project evolves. Updated wording will be posted here. For privacy questions, use BookGuard support, and avoid sharing private details in a public issue.
